Three lines
Same 100 kcal. Three ways to take it.
Every line runs on the same dual-source carbohydrate blend. What changes is the texture, the packet size, and how much sodium and amino acid you get. Choose by how long and how hard you are going.

The everyday gel
Original Energy Gel
The one that started it, made for ultra-trail runners over 30 years ago and still the simplest way to carry 100 kcal. A smooth gel in a 32 g packet. 17 flavours, with or without caffeine.

Thin and sippable
Liquid Energy Gel
The same carbohydrate blend as Original in a lighter, more fluid 60 g packet. No chewing, goes down fast, and because it holds more water it freezes into a slushie for hot days. 7 flavours.

Long and hard efforts
Roctane Energy Gel
For efforts past three hours, race pace or heavy sweat. Same 100 kcal, but up to 3× the sodium and 3× the branched-chain amino acids of Original, plus taurine and beta-alanine. 10 flavours, 7 of them caffeinated.
By the numbers
Numbers worth remembering.
Most fuelling decisions come back to a handful of figures. These are the ones that matter.
- 100 kcal per packet, in every line
- 20–30 min between gels once you pass the first hour
- 3 lines: Original, Liquid and Roctane
- 30+ flavours across the three lines
Suggested use
When to take one.
The rhythm depends on how long you will be out. Start hydrated, take every gel with a few sips of water, and test the plan on a training day before you race on it.
practise it in training first

Top up before you start
For an hour or less, the job is to begin well hydrated and fuelled. Take one gel about five minutes before you set off, with a few sips of water.

1–2 h
Refuel on the move
Past the first hour your stored carbohydrate runs low, so you need to replace it as you go. Take a gel every 20–30 minutes and keep drinking so your body can absorb it.

2–3 h
Add electrolytes
The longer you go, the more your body needs, especially in Indian heat and humidity. Keep the gel rhythm and add sodium: Roctane carries up to 3× the sodium of Original.
Tip: Keep the rhythm, add sodiumRoctane vs Original -
3 h+
Go long on Roctane
You cannot replace everything you burn, so take in as much as your gut comfortably handles. Switch to Roctane for 3× the branched-chain amino acids, and practise this intake in training first.

Innovation
Two carbs, one express lane.
Every gel blends maltodextrin and fructose. Maltodextrin converts to usable energy within minutes; fructose arrives several minutes later. The two take different routes into the bloodstream, so you absorb more fuel, faster, and get a steady supply instead of a single-sugar spike and crash.
- Maltodextrin for fast energy, fructose for the longer tail
- Sodium to replace what you lose in sweat
- 450 mg of amino acids in Original and Liquid, 1,425 mg in Roctane
- Vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and banned-substance tested
same blend, all three lines

Before your first gel.
Five quick answers. Storage, kids, freezing and more are on the full FAQ page.
What is an energy gel?
A small packet of easily digested carbohydrate, 100 kcal and around 22 g of carbs, plus sodium and amino acids. Your body stores a limited amount of carbohydrate; once you are working hard or going past about 45 minutes, that store runs down and performance drops. A gel tops it up without asking your stomach to handle solid food.
How fast does a gel work?
Straight away. Maltodextrin converts to energy your muscles can use within minutes; fructose follows several minutes later. That staggered delivery is what gives you a steady supply rather than a sugar rush and a crash.
How many should I take, and when?
For an hour or less, one gel about five minutes before you start. Beyond an hour, one every 20–30 minutes. Always take a gel with a few sips of water, which helps your body absorb it. The how to fuel guide covers the full plan by duration.
Original, Liquid or Roctane: which one is for me?
All three give you 100 kcal from the same carbohydrate blend. Original is the everyday gel with the widest flavour range. Liquid is thinner and sippable, useful if gel texture bothers you or it is hot. Roctane has up to 3× the sodium and 3× the amino acids, for efforts over three hours, high intensity or heavy sweat. See how to choose the right gel.
Are the gels vegan and gluten-free? What about caffeine?
Yes. Every gel is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and tested for banned substances. Original and Roctane are also kosher; Liquid is not. Caffeine is optional and only in the flavours marked as caffeinated, from 20 mg up to 70 mg in Roctane Cold Brew Coffee. The flavour and caffeine chart lists every flavour.
